About

Shiv is a performing artist (actor, dancer, singer) and student doctor at UCLA. His background in Indian music, Kathak dance, and anthropology drive most of his creative work. He has trained in Kathak under his guru, Smt. Archana Joglekar, for over 15 years, learning and perfecting various facets of taal anga, bhaav anga, and layakaari. From 2019-20, he used a Fulbright award to earn his MA in dance anthropology exploring inherent queerness in Kathak dance. As someone who thrives in the in-between, Shiv has worked to carve a space in medicine and the arts that evades being neatly placed into either field. At the intersection of these two fields, he has worked on dance therapy interventions with patients with Parkinson’s and kids with autism, led movement workshops, and curated museum experiences to promote art education for colleagues in health care. His dance work has been showcased through performances in NJ, NYC, Philadelphia, Toronto, Berlin, and London. In believing that all of his artistic work is driven by a deep curiosity for humanity, Shiv hopes to continue telling stories that are multi-dimensional, that are deeply rooted in community, and that speak to all of our incredibly specific yet collective experiences.
